In Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Hector The Mysterious Devil serves as the Devil of Melancholy while gaining fame by this name. His presence creates deep significance to the story since he holds major influence over both sanctuary and Roswaal A Mathers. Hector proved a dangerous force in Re Zero because he belonged to the Witches of Sin as a forgotten member who controlled the Authority of Melancholy.

Who is Hector The Mysterious Devil?

The title which awarded him the status of Devil of Melancholy served to portray Hector’s depressed and sluggish personality accurately. Among the better-known Witches of Sin, Hector and Pandora stood out because they handled sins outside the seven traditional deadly sins that the Witch of Vanity managed. The world has forgotten about Hector because of this reason while only select individuals within the series were aware of his existence.

Hector possessed a unique visual presentation because of his thin body structure, braided black hair, and dark dull eyes along with the wrinkled skin beneath his eyes. His pale complexion along with his heavy exhaustion and remoteness dominated his facial expression. Despite showing a melancholy personality he dressed in jester clothing which created an opposing effect to his gloomy character.

Hector’s Authority: The Power of Melancholy

Hector The Mysterious Devil wielded his Witch Factor by using the Authority of Melancholy which enabled him to apply powerful stress to every object. This ability proved devastating when Hector used it to crush the bones and internal organs of his opponent Roswaal A. Mathers during combat. The Witch Factor carried by Hector enabled him to break down Roswaal A. Mathers’ powerful fire spells without any effort.

Throughout his existence, Hector resented employing his strong abilities because it intensified his gloomy feelings and sorrow.

His ambiguous nature emerged from his destructive battle skills which brought him no satisfaction because he displayed detachment to everyone and everything.

Hector’s Role in the Sanctuary Incident

The pivotal moment in which Hector appears happens at the time when assaults Sanctuary. Echidna established the Sanctuary as an exclusive domain that offered protection to all demi-human beings. After hunting Echidna down Hector began his attack on her castle defenses.

On his way to Echidna Hector The Mysterious Devil encountered Roswaal A. Mathers, the apprentice of Echidna during the assault on the Sanctuary. The prominent mage Roswaal was overwhelmed by Hector’s immense strength against Hector’s astonishing magical abilities. Roswaal suffered a fatal attack from the Devil of Melancholy which resulted in severe injuries to his body and desperate suffering. Hector displayed constant irritation as he insisted to Roswaal during their fight that the mage should simply rest silently on the ground.

During the prolonged fight, Hector noticed a person observing him from nearby but tried to wipe them out using his Authority. The severely wounded Roswaal managed to launch one desperate fire spell against Hector which delayed his death a little longer. A few moves later Hector eliminated Roswaal by breaking through his fire barriers.

The approach of Echidna halted Hector from destroying the inhabitants of the cabin. The meeting between these two proved short and full of hostility. Hector revealed no signs of fear while facing Echidna because his magic power surpassed hers. Ryuzu Meyer became the anchor of sacrifice who activated the Sanctuary defensive barrier before Hector could launch an attack against the site. The barrier sealed Hector outside and blocked his opportunity to finish his combat against the cabin’s inhabitant.

The Aftermath: Hector’s Disappearance from History

The fate of Hector following the Sanctuary battle remains unknown to present history. History does not show what happened to Hector nor do most people remember his existence even though he carried the Witch Factor. Hector’s combat against Roswaal resulted in a permanent mark because Roswaal used Hector’s characteristic way of speaking and acting to symbolize his defeat.

Ryuzu Shima kept a few faded memories of the Sanctuary attack because she was created through cloning by Ryuzu Meyer. She informed Subaru Natsuki as well as Garfiel Tinzel, Otto Suwen and Ram about the historical events that involved Hector which became one of the few accounts proving his existence. Throughout time Puck the Great Spirit noted to Roswaal that he would never achieve the heights of Hector’s power since the Devil’s strength surpassed all others.

Why Was Hector Forgotten?

The complete disappearance of Hector from historical records produces multiple unexplained questions. Official records concerning the existence of Hector and Pandora vanished permanently along with their status as “forgotten sins” since they differed from the established Witches of Sin. The historical records suggest intentional deletion by an outside power because these figures possessed special Witch Factor traits.

Some experts believe that Hector The Mysterious Devil possessed demihuman origins as this explains why he became stuck in the Sanctuary boundary. Being part demi-human would position Hector as a rare case among Witch Factor bearers because of his human attributes.

Hector’s Voice Actors and Popularity

The anime audience finds Hector interesting because of his uncommon appearance along with his remarkable power and depressive personality even though he appears only briefly. Junichi Suwabe delivers Hector’s voice in the Japanese version and maintains a reputation for portraying Grimmjow (Bleach), Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen), and Eraser Head (My Hero Academia). He finds his voice in English through J. Michael Tatum who also performs Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler and Erwin Smith from Attack on Titan.

Among all characters in the story of Re:Zero Hector stands as a deeply mysterious figure who receives little examination. Though he appears minimally, his powerful nature along with his concealed historical past generates constant interest from the audience.

The legacy of Hector as the Melancholy Devil makes Re Zero fans anticipate learning more about his past and his connection to the Witches of Sin despite his current ambiguous situation. Does the future show another appearance of Hector? Only time will tell.
